Should you buy your Prom Dress on the Internet?

Maybe you should, maybe you shouldn’t. What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying your dress on the internet?

First, lets look at the advantages:

Price - is the number one reason for purchasing over the internet. If you are willing to spend the time and do the searching necessary you can find discounted prices on the internet.
Selection - there are 100s of websites and even eBay with prom dresses for sale. With all these places to look you know you’ll find a huge selection.
Time - if you find the right dress, many of the internet sites can ship immediately. And when you do your shopping online you don’t have to take time going to all the local shops looking for a dress.

Ok, what about the disadvantages?

Price - do you really save that much money when you buy online? Sometimes you don’t. You pay for the dress, and then you pay for shipping and handling and maybe insurance, too. Then when you get your dress it will need to be steamed/pressed before you wear it. If the dress doesn’t fit well, it will need alterations. When you try on before you buy you can see how the dress fits and know ahead of time if it needs alterations and approximately what they will cost.
Consider why they are selling the dress for less. Has it been worn? Are the beads coming off? Are there snags or stains in the fabric. Is it a factory “second”? It doesn’t have to be a used dress to look used.
You really can't "see" the dress. You obviously can't try it on. What is the fabric really like, what is the actual color of the dress?
What guarantees do you have that you'll get the dress, or that you'll get the actual dress you purchased. There are thousands of "knock-off" copycat companies that sell "designer", "name brand" dresses for less.
